This week we’re highlighting our newest team member: Monique Gilliam! Monique joined Cohear this month as our new Cincinnati Lead Organizer.
Hey Monique! We’re so excited to have you on the Cohear team! Tell us, what was the first time you heard about Cohear? What were your initial thoughts?
Hi! I’m super excited to be a part of the team! I first learned about Cohear from Nikita. My initial thoughts were that they were doing pretty cool work and I wanted to be a part of that, so I became a Bridgebuilder.
You have an extensive background in community organizing. Can you tell us a little bit more about your work before Cohear and how it informs what you’re doing now?
My previous work extensively involved working with people in various communities, that work would include organizing, facilitating, and getting to know the families and their stories.
What are you most excited for in your new role at Cohear?
I’m excited to work with the team and connect with more people to grow the Bridgebuilder network.
What are you most looking forward to about being on the Cohear team?
I’m looking forward to building relationships and getting the word out about Cohear.
Tell us a little bit more about yourself personally (family, hometown, etc.)!
I’m from Cincinnati and I’m a mother of four. Being a mom pretty much defines me, it’s by far, the most rewarding part of who I am.
You’re a Cincy native. What’s your favorite place in the city?
My neighborhood, OTR, is my place in the city. I love having cool places to visit so close to home. Washington Park, Findlay Market, Simply Rolled and Boomtown Biscuits are some of my favs.
What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
Energetic, passionate, determined
What are some things you have learned about working virtually right now?
Working from home doesn’t mean work around the clock (nonstop).
What are the three words you would use to describe Cohear?
Forward thinking, innovative, a movement
How about your favorite movie or TV show?
Insecure is one of my favorite TV shows, I could binge watch that show over and over again.
Anything else you want to add or share about yourself?
This time next week, I’ll be in Florida! I can’t wait!
