Employee Spotlight: Madeline Anderson

Employee Spotlight is Cohear blog series meant to share more about the amazing individuals on our team. Every month, we’ll share a quick Q&A with one of our team members so you can get to know us a little bit better.

Meet Madeline Anderson. Madeline is Cohear's new Communications Intern and we are excited for you to get to know her.

We’re so excited to have you on the Cohear team! How did you first hear about Cohear and what was your initial impression?

I am thrilled to be a part of the team! I first heard about Cohear last spring while I was working on gathering information for a piece of legislation regarding incentives for affordable housing in the Cincinnati area with Councilwoman Jan Michele Kearney. I first came across a report that Cohear wrote about housing and wanted to learn more so I set up a meeting with the CEO Dani Isaacsohn, to discuss the issue further. In the process of talking about the issue, Dani explained what Cohear was and I fell in love with the organization almost instantly and knew I had to find a way to be involved.

Can you tell us a little bit about your background and studies?

I am currently majoring in Philosophy, Politics, and the Public and Finance with minors in Elementary Education and History at Xavier University. At Xavier, I am also a member of the Community-Engaged Fellowship which is a program that focuses on being present in the community and raising awareness of social justice issues. Outside of school, I had the opportunity to serve as an intern at the Housing Authority of Covington this past summer and at an education non-profit that focuses on bringing STEM education to children who attend inner-city schools, The STEM Connection, from 2016 to 2020.

What are you most excited about in your role at Cohear?

I am most excited to get to know the people involved in the organization and hear their stories and how they think society can be improved. I feel as if people's voices and opinions get lost or dismissed too often in today's society and I cannot wait to be a part of an organization that elevates the people's voice.

Is there anything about Cohear’s work that you find most surprising or enjoyable?

The thing that surprised me the most is how much everyone truly seems to care and listen to each other. No matter how small what I have to say may seem people always listen and have follow-up questions ready on the spot.

What are some of the goals you hope to get out of an internship with Cohear?

One of the biggest things I hope to get out of this internship is to grow in my communication skills and my ability to elevate the voices of those around me.

Do you have a favorite travel destination?

My favorite place to go in Panama. I had the opportunity to go and stay and a village in Panama the summer before I started college and it is one of my favorite experiences I have ever had.

How about your favorite movie or TV show?

I am obsessed with old movies so my favorite movie would have to be The Princess Bride. As for TV shows, I love anything crime-related. Criminal Minds and NCIS would have to be my favorite though.
