Employee Spotlight: Céline Doute

Employee Spotlight is a Cohear blog series meant to share more about the amazing individuals on our team.We are excited to introduce you to Cohears' newest Digital Media Intern, Céline Doute.

We’re so excited to have you on the Cohear team! How did you first hear about Cohear and what was your initial impression?

Thank you, much appreciated. I am so grateful for this opportunity! Back in the fall, I was scrolling through Handshake and happened to notice a posting by the company. Something stuck out to me, and it was the fact that the company believes decision-makers need to learn from everyday people to make more effective decisions. This is something I firmly believe and preach in life. Unlike other companies, Cohear chose to make this statement at the beginning of the job description, intriguing me to read further and find that I enjoyed what the company had to offer.

Can you tell us a little bit about your background and studies?

Of course! I grew up in Northwest Ohio, a town called Lima, to be exact. From there, I graduated high school and learned that I wanted to get away from the small city life as fast as I could. One acceptance letter later, I found myself at the University of Cincinnati pursuing my two favorite things, Communication and Information Systems. I chose to pursue Communication because I love talking, having deep conversations, and learning why people respond to a situation a certain way. I also love the world of technology, tearing apart computers and putting them back together, and learning about the latest in a start-up company. I figured, why not put my two loves together and create my dream future. I also learned to love Public Relations and the growing Social Media World. Growing up in the 2000s gave me a taste of the first flip phone, iPhone, and later the boom of the social media frenzy we see today. Learning how to utilize social media to build the branding of a company, and showcase its many talents, is one of the reasons I was interested in this internship.

What are you most excited for in your role at Cohear?

There are so many activities. It's hard to pick one thing I'm most excited about. Besides building my content creation skills, I'm most excited to see just how impactful our work is this semester. I'm a firm believer that hard work pays off and it's gratifying to see the positive result of said work. I can't wait to engage with the community and show them what a great company Cohear is.

Is there anything about Cohear’s work that you find most surprising or enjoyable?

I find what's most surprising is the engagement and vocal impact the community has with Cohear. At times, people are more say than do. They "say" they'll help someone voice their opinions or show impact, especially in regards to company decisions. It's still difficult, even in 2022, to see that "do" action, especially when it comes to minority voices. From what I've seen, Cohear has made it its mission to make those minority voices heard, especially with larger companies, where it's needed. I haven't had a chance to find many companies like Cohear, being that middle-man between the community and corporations.

What are some of the goals you hope to get out of an internship with Cohear?

Besides furthering my skills and success with the company, my goal is to learn more about the Cincinnati/Columbus community and how much change can come from a small group of people fighting for their opinions and beliefs. It's one thing to read about it on social media or see it on the news. Another is when you can witness and guide firsthand with a supportive team of people.

What are three words you would use to describe yourself?

I feel as if this is the hardest question I have to answer. Three words that describe me are, aspiring, motivated, and truthful.

What are the three words you would use to describe Cohear?

Innovative, passionate, and honest

Do you have a favorite travel destination?

I'm obsessed with traveling. When it comes to picking a favorite travel destination, oh man! I'd have to say a favorite will be Rome, Italy. Hoping to travel there soon. I love history and the incredible feeling that comes with seeing it right before your eyes. You can't forget the culture and the gorgeous environment that comes with.

How about your favorite movie or TV show?

Another tough question. I'd say New Girl is a running favorite. The diverse character line-up makes for a great story. It's a show I always turn on for the laughs.

Anything else you want to add or share about yourself?

I'm truly a wild-card or a pandora’s box, there's so much to know about me. Thanks for taking the time to share a little piece of my life!
