Employee Spotlight is a Cohear blog series meant to share more about the amazing individuals on our team. Every month, we’ll share a quick Q&A with one of our team members so you can get to know us a little bit better.
Meet Adam Denney. Adam has been with team Cohear since October acting as our Communications Lead.
Hey Adam! We’re so excited to have you on the Cohear team! How did you first hear about Cohear and what was your initial impression?
I have known about Cohear’s work for a while as I’m connected with some of our Bridgebuilders. A friend forwarded me the details about the open position and I knew I had to jump at the opportunity. Because of the respect and trust I have for my friends who are Bridgebuilders, I knew that Cohear was on to something when it comes to their community engagement model and network. I was very surprised at the diversity of sectors that Cohear actively works in.
What are you most excited for in your role as a Communication Lead?
I am most excited to keep building Cohear’s digital media presence. We do so many cool and exciting things so to leverage digital and social media to communicate what's going on with Cohear is really important. I’m also a qualitative research nerd, so to be able to work on building reports for our clients really has me energized.
Now that you’ve been on the team for a little while, is there anything about our work that you find most surprising or enjoyable?
I would definitely say the team culture. We all come to the table holding similar beliefs and values and I learn so much from everyone on the team. Team lunch is the best. Since the pandemic I have been pretty isolated, so having a time each week when I can come together with others is so important and needed at this moment.
How long have you been in Cincinnati and what are some things you love most about the city?
I have been in Cincinnati for almost 9 years now. I’ve been lucky to have worked with a lot of amazing people in this city who are doing great social impact work so to live in an environment surrounded by these people and projects has been such a blessing.
What are three words you would use to describe yourself?
Curious. Creative. Active.
What are some things you have learned about working virtually right now?
I have learned to take breaks. When things were business as usual, I would find myself working through the day without taking much time to restart. Since I do not have a commute or lunch time planned in my day as I normally would, I’ve had to learn to just take mini breaks--going on a walk around the block, having a midday dance party, or just watching a few upcoming movie trailers.
What are the three words you would use to describe Cohear?
Impactful. Intersectional. Collaborative.
Do you have a favorite travel destination?
Anywhere. I love to go to new places and just get lost. My motto has always been when in doubt, turn left.
How about your favorite movie or TV show?
Favorite movie: Elvira Mistress of the Dark
Favorite TV show: Rupaul’s Drag Race
Anything else you want to add or share about yourself?
Outside of my work at Cohear I am also finishing my MFA in Design Thinking at Radford University. When I do have a spare minute, you will likely find me on a long run clearing my head or reading a good science fiction book.
